The Top Ten YA Books I Can't Believe I Haven't Read Yet

I have quite a few books I haven't been able to get to, whether it's from loss of interest or lack of time or both.  I decided to focus on YA as a whole rather than just a specific subgenre.

1. The Mortal Instruments Series by Cassandra Clare- It's on my list of things to get to but I just haven't made it happen yet... I did however, watch the first movie (don't look at me like that!) so I really need to get on it!

2. The Infernal Devices by Cassandra Clare- This is the my excuse for not having read TMI yet because I want to read The Infernal Devices first... but I do have this box set on my shelf so there really is no excuse for not having read it yet.

3. Shadow and Bone / The Grisha Series by Leigh Bardugo - AGAIN I have this complete series sitting on my shelf. I'm actually going to attempt to get to it either this week or next.

4. Anything by Sarah Dessen - I'm pretty sure this means I fail at Contemporary YA but I have never picked up a book by her with the intent to read it.  I've glanced at the summaries of a few but they never make it home with me.

5. The Raven Boys by Maggie Stiefvater - I tried to pick this one up but failed pretty quickly.  The whole series sounds amazing and I hear great things about it but just can't bring myself to read it.

6. The Maze Runner series by James Dashner - Okay, so technically I have read the first book in the series but I just didn't like it which translates into me not finishing the series.  The movie was pretty good though!

7. The House of Night series by P.C. Cast - I just never have been given a reason good enough to make me want to read this one, even though it was pretty popular back when it first came out.  And at this point there are just so many books that I really don't forsee me even trying to catch up.

8. Caster Chronicles by Kami Garcia and Margaret Stohl - This is another one that I have actually read the first book in the series but found a lack of motivation to read the rest.  Again, I really enjoyed the movie.

9. Shiver by Maggie Stiefvater - I borrowed this from the library but waited too long to start it so I only read a few chapters before having to return it.  From what I read I have a feeling I would enjoy it but it's the picking it up again part that I'm having trouble with.

10. The Iron Fey series by Julie Kagawa - I have no excuses.  I just need to read it!

What about you? What are some books you can't believe you haven't read from your go-to genre?

  1. I've read most of the books on your list but since you've probably heard how amazing some of them are I'll refrain from fangirling too much ;) However, I haven't read the Grisha series even though I own all the books and I know that I really need to read those. Great list!

  2. I haven't read any of the books here save The Maze Runner and the Mortal Instruments series (although I am primarily a YA reader), but all are on my TBR list. The Maze Runner was kind of "meh" for me as well, and I've been hearing the movie was better A LOT lately. I'll have to check it out. In regards to the Mortal Instruments, I haven't read the Infernal Devices yet but I didn't have difficulty understanding the world. And I am going to look at you like that! Seeing the movie before reading the book? Tsk, tsk... just kidding;) In all seriousness, I hope you enjoy all of these books:)

    1. I've heard that you can start with either TMI or Infernal devices but whichever one you start with is the one you end up partial to, so we'll see how it goes!
