Origin (Lux Series #4) by Jennifer L. Armentrout

Daemon will do anything to get Katy back.
After the successful but disastrous raid on Mount Weather, he’s facing the impossible. Katy is gone. Taken. Everything becomes about finding her. Taking out anyone who stands in his way? Done. Burning down the whole world to save her? Gladly. Exposing his alien race to the world? With pleasure.
All Katy can do is survive.
Surrounded by enemies, the only way she can come out of this is to adapt. After all, there are sides of Daedalus that don’t seem entirely crazy, but the group’s goals are frightening and the truths they speak even more disturbing. Who are the real bad guys? Daedalus? Mankind? Or the Luxen?
Together, they can face anything.
But the most dangerous foe has been there all along, and when the truths are exposed and the lies come crumbling down, which side will Daemon and Katy be standing on?
And will they even be together?

Review:

I wasn't sure Daemon even had a choice.
I wasn't sure I did, either.

Good Gracious that is one mighty fine looking cover!  Seriously, I could look at it for hours...

So remember how at the end of the Opal review I was all like "if you're going to read Opal might as well buy Origin" I take it back.  You may want to wait till Opposition Lux book #5 comes out (which isn't expected until summer 2014) because if you thought the ending of Opal was bad wait till you get to the end of Origin.

Aside from that this was another great installment to the Lux series.  Remember Blake?  Lets just say he gets what's coming to him, I am surprised by how Jennifer delivered it, but I think he deserved it.  Does that make me a bad person, possibly.

With Origin we get an insight into the world of Daedalus and trust me it ain't pretty.  Turns out they have been formulating a new serum that I'm not sure we know what it's full purpose is for, even at the end of the book.  They have also been busy creating their own army of Origins (I will let you discover what that is on your own).  Basically if it does come down to a war between Daedalus and the Luxen I believe Daedalus has a pretty good defense laid out.

"...it's time to introduce the world to a little bit of extraterrestrial awesomeness."

Every action has a consequence.  In deciding to save Katy, Daemon angers his own people, who in response shut him off from the clan.  Meaning he isn't welcome into any colony and won't receive any help from them.  They should have known that Daemon going after Katy was the least of their problems.  His actions later on in the book will have them making a surprise visit that will leave you shocked.  His actions also cause a buttload of devastation and sadness that really had me hating Jennifer for a while.  I'm still not sure that I'm completely over it but the ending took my mind off of it due to it being a mother of a cliff hanger.  I suppose I may be a bit dramatic about that.  It may not be THAT bad but in my current state of mind it's the end of the world! (You will see how clever that thought is when you get there.)

"...Sweet Evil is one of my favorites..."

On a side note I really love how Jennifer throws in subtle references to other books.  None of them are as in your face obvious as the one she makes towards Sweet Evil by Wendy Higgins.  When Daemon and Katy escape Daedalous they have to take on new identities.  Daemon's new name is Kaidan Rowe.  For those of you who haven't read it (you should by the way) Sweet Evil is a book about angels and nephilim and Kaidan Rowe is like the demon of lust.  Nice one Jennifer!

When all is said and done I still think you should read Origin.  It's up to you if you want to suffer through a year or more wait with me.  You know what they say, Misery LOVES company!!
